These threads are written at the desk. Each one is a way of spending a day. They are not letters from named visitors, and they are not scores.

Two nights beside the ColosseoZwei Nächte am Colosseo

I wanted the countries in one walk and a bed that was not a search after closing. Hotel Colosseo is a three-minute walk and a silly amount of Italy for Baden. The park starts when you are in the streets, not when you are looking at the portico from the drive. It is a hotel.

On the train I read the Wikipedia account of the eighteen areas and the separate page for Silver Star. The article makes the place sound like a list you are supposed to finish. I walked three countries and one hill. That was the weekend. I wish I had looked at those before I booked, because I almost judged the day from the wrong building. The steel hill over the trees is the one in the on-ride films people post, and the stills on Wikimedia Commons are of the park, not of a hotel driveway.

The summer gate at 9:00 is early enough if you slept there. That is a calendar fact, not a ranking. The year still shuts later.

A year-round gateEin ganzjähriges Tor

I went when the seasonal parks on this card are dark. The castle was there on a wet Tuesday. That is the whole reason this row exists for me. I wanted to know if the gate is actually a winter habit or only a sentence people repeat. I am not interested in a summer crowd story.

The night before I read the Wikipedia page for the park and the one for Sleeping Beauty Castle, then I sat through castle routes on YouTube until I could name the hub without a map. The Commons category is full of the pink towers from every season. February looks like February. The castle does not close because the trees are bare.

One land and the RER back. The point of the note is only that the gate was open. A short winter day is still a resort day.

Home before midnightZu Hause vor Mitternacht

Tivoli is the garden I can enter after work. I do not pack a bag. The fountain and the flags are the park, and if that sounds thin, you have not stood there at half past seven with the lights coming on. I do not negotiate a second day.

I had already seen the place in evening films on YouTube and read the article on the garden since 1843. The Commons pictures are what convinced me an hour was a complete visit and not an apology. A city evening is not a resort, and this note does not score it. Home before midnight.

I am not comparing this with Rust. Most weeks, the garden wins. I am comparing it with staying in.Ich vergleiche das nicht mit Rust. In den meisten Wochen gewinnt der Garten. Ich vergleiche es mit Zuhausebleiben.

The lake is the holidayDer See ist der Urlaub

I came for the lake and used the castle gate as the morning. Two rides, then the water. If I had tried to make the park the holiday, you can have been angry by four o’clock and unfair to both.

The stone arch in the films people shoot at the old gate is the same one you walk through. The Gardaland article is right that this is a ride park sitting on a shore holiday. The Commons photographs of the gate were how I knew not to rush the entrance. There was no complete tour, and this note does not score one. The gate is the start of the walk.

The first time I tried Rome and Greece and the village and remembered none of them. I was collecting names. You stay in one panel until it is funny, and then you turn the page. The comic does not work that way.

The second morning I stayed in the Gaulish village and then Greece. That was the day. The films people cut together under Parc Astérix village on YouTube and the Wikipedia map of the worlds say the same thing if you actually read them instead of using them as a checklist. I should have copied that. The Commons photographs are of one land at a time.

The first push through every land was a lap, not a visit. The second morning is the day: the village, then Greece, then stop.

The shut weeks are not bad luckDie geschlossenen Wochen sind kein Pech

I drove to Staffordshire in the second week of January because a friend said the gardens would be quiet. The gate was shut. That is not a story about a bad day inside the park. I stood in a car park and felt stupid, which is the correct feeling. There was no day.

The Alton Towers article does not hide that this is a seasonal estate. The winter films on YouTube are of a shut valley, not of a secret opening. I had read neither. I have not earned an opinion on the cedars. Six is for the lesson, not for the gardens.

Without a carOhne Auto

I do not own a story in which the car park is the start of the day. If the morning connection is dull, the day is still a day, because I am not negotiating a motorway before I have seen Rookburgh. Brühl is a train.

The Phantasialand article puts the park between Cologne and Bonn, which is the useful sentence. The walk-through films show how small the quarters are once you are in. People who insist on driving are solving a problem the place does not have. You do not need a car to cross them.

One picture is the whole memoryEin Bild ist die ganze Erinnerung

Ask me what Rust looked like and I do not list eighteen names. I say: a steel hill over trees, and streets that pretend to be countries. The rest is weather and lunch. That is the memory.

The picture is Silver Star’s page, and it matches the films of that hill and the stills in the Commons category. If a page or a film shows you a hotel drive and calls it the park, it is showing you the wrong building. I nearly believed that. The hotel is a place to sleep. The coaster is inside the trees.

Do not do bothNicht beides

There are two parks east of Paris. I did one. Anyone who tells you both in a February afternoon is describing a lap, not a day. Read it so you know what you are refusing, not so you can tick it. The Disneyland Paris article is about the resort, which is larger than the castle park.Östlich von Paris liegen zwei Parks.

The films of a single day are long enough. You are watching someone fail in advance. If a video is a sprint between gates, turn it off.

A short afternoon still countsEin kurzer Nachmittag zählt trotzdem

I am tired of letters that only count if you stayed until close. An hour in the garden is a visit. The history since 1843 did not assign me a full day, and the evening films are often no longer than the walk I took. I found the fountain, I watched the flags, I left.

A short afternoon is not a long day that failed. It is another kind of day.
